The Love Dare

Heres the short version. My married has been on a serious tight rope. There a lot more to it than that, but thats the general idea. I havent been putting in the same effort as Justin over the last few months. Actually, I havent really put in any effort at all. I knew we were struggling, barely treding water, and I was just waiting to sink instead of fighting to keep us above water. I had basically checked out. Things got really bad over this last weekend, and I finally opened my eyes to what I was about to loose. As of right now, we are back on track. However, if we have even a chance of survival, thats not enough. I found the book The Love Dare which is a 40 day challenge for husbands and wives to understand and practice uncontional love. We are on Day One, and I have decided to blog each day, and our progress. I may skip a day here and there, and I wont go back and make up for it, Ill just move on to whatever day we are on. I should normally do it at the end of each day so that I can write out what I journaled for the day. Feel free to take the dailey Dares with us, and you can write your own experience in a comment. We are also carrying this over to our kids, for the dares that are appropriate. So here is todays:

Day One: Love is Patient.

Todays Dare:

The first part if this dare is fairly simple. Although love is communicated in a number of ways, our words often reflect the condition of our heart. For the next day, resolve to demonstrate patients and say nothing negative to your spouse at all. If the temptation arises, choose not to say anything. Itsa better to hold your tounge than to say something you'll regret.'

Did anything happen today to cause anger toward your mate? Were you tempted to think disapproving thoughts and to let them come out into words?

After the day is done, Ill come back and post about how it went :) Best of luck to anyone else who decides to accept the challenges! I highly reccomend you get the bookg as well. There are a few pages for each day that gives you an explination of the challenge before you get to it, and some things to keep in mind. At the end of 40 days, our marriage will be healed because of the hard work WE put in. This is great for marriages that are both healthy, and those on the rocks. I wish everyone the very best.

Savings? What savings?

Wow, been a while huh?? I guess other than the random updates, I didnt have much to post about, and most of you already know whats going on in dailey life. I do, however, have a great topic for today! A financial overhauling.

Justin and I bad spenders. We have virtually no savings, and litterally go paycheck to paycheck. We are never 'hurting' for money between paydays because we have enough to spare in between. We only have about (not including allotment bills) $770 in bills each month. His paychecks are about $1500 a payday (we have a good bit in allotments... about $730. $220 of which just ended on Feb 1st., so next month it will only be about $510 in allotments) If you think about that, then in reality, we have only about $1290 in bills every month. And thats ALL of our monthly bills. Add in about $400 for groceries, $120 in dog food, $300 for gas, and around $50 for diapers and that puts us at $2160. I have NO idea where the other $840 a month goes. I mean I know there are things Im not accounting for that arent paid every month, but still give or take even $400. That leave $440 that we should be able to save every month, but do we? No. I 'save' money on coupons, but what am I saving it for? It doesnt get put into savings... it gets spent on something else I wouldnt have normally bought. How is that helping me at all?

Its not.

Yet, here we sit, with no emergency funds or anything but complaining because we dont have this, that or the other. Which, to me, is totally hilarious. We would have all these other things we want if we were just smarter. It seems we just cant see past the next payday. Sad really. I mean, Nathin could be in college in 12 years. If we ONLY save $6,000 a year, thats only $72,000. That MIGHT cover college for him, but that doesnt even account for the other two kids! So we would be saving, saving saving... and probably only have enough for for each of our kids to have about $30,000 for college, and then all of the money we saved is GONE. We would have to start all over again. Crazy, right?? But it has to be done. I know we can save more than that if we just put our minds to it. Plus as the years go on, we will have a higer income, so we could be saving more money each month, plus Justin will get retirement pay which will help out a lot. Its not like we will actually get any of the money that he pays into Social Security. That will all be gone in the next few years. Hell, my PARENTS got a letter saying they wont be getting it because the money just isnt there. That being the case, we definitly arent getting it, and yet we still have to pay into it every month?? For what exactly? That really ticks me off. All wecan do for nowis cut back on the frivilous spending. That doesnt mean NO fun, it just means spending wiser on a dailey basis so that we can set aside money for long term savings, emergency funds, and fun savings. So my goal... by the end of the year, we will have $5,000 in a long term savings account, and $2,000 in an emergency fund, on top of saving for Christmas and birthdays, both of which we are going to scale back BIG time on this year. Our kids have been WAY too spoiled the last few years, and it needs to stop. They can either have huge Christmas' now, and no college money, or smaller Christmas' but a decent amount of money set aside for college. I am going to tell family too that gifts for the kids will be money to their college funds. Instead of my mom dropping $500 for each kid at Christmas, she can do $100 in gifts, and the other $400 to their college. They might get to be teenagers and think it totally sucks, but I really wish I had something like that waiting for me!

We have also thought about the possibility that the kids wont all go to college, or may get a scholarship, or join the military and have school paid for. In that case, they will get HALF their money at 25, and the other half when they turn 30. I think thats fair. Anyway... I need to get off of here and create a bills list and an 'In and Out' ledger :) Wish me luck!!

Change change change! *cue music*

So last week was rough. But here I am today... still in one piece. Everything with Link has really worn on me, but I feel better about it every day. But thats not something I want to revisit right now. Still a fresh wound.

I have been SO happy with my results at the gym. I seem to kind of bounce between 150 and 151.4. I think it depends on the time of day I weigh myself, so Ill stick with the higher number since I dont always have an empty stomach. 10 more pounds! And those will be the hardest. What could help is what happened Saturday, lol. I had plans to go to the movies with the ladies. Seemed Mindy had other plans for me! She begged and begged for me to come up. She had already talked with Justin about it, and he hadnt mentioned it because they wanted it to be kind of an in-promt-to kind of thing. I finally broke and decided to go up. I packed up myself and Chase, and I talked Kim into going with me. The two hour drive is much easier with adult convo! Once we got there we got the kids settled and in bed and headed to go see this amaaaaazing band Chasin Mason. They were really fantastic! I am kicking myself in the ass for not picking up a CD. They will be in Racine on Friday night and I am reeeally thinking I am going to go. I am hoping to find a sitter so that Justin and I can have a night out together. That would be awesome. I want to go see Cobia on Saturday too, but I doubt we can find a sitter two nights in a row, lol. Maybe Ill just send Justin since it seems to be more of his flavor of music anyway. Anyway... we all had just an amazing time on Saturday! There was dancin and drinkin and laughin... oh and then there was Mindy and Kim who snapped out of the fun, carefree mode to shift into mama mode super fast to rescue me from the groping hands of a creepy guy! I didnt even know what was going on really before they were on top of him pushing him away from me, lol. Mindy was doing the mom 'Eh eh eh eh eh!' and Kim was hollering for him to 'get the f*ck away from her', lol. I love my girls!! We danced so much my freakin body is STILL sore. But thats what I get for going to the gym before going out. Of course, I didnt know it at the time, lol. Good times!!

I am working on turning the utility room into a playroom and it is coming along really good. We had just done Chases room in a beach theme and he decided that for his birthday he wants a Super Hero room instead. Wonderful, lol. So I am going to do that for him, and then I am going to make the playroom into a beach theme instead. I am really happy with how its looking so far.

Grace might be ready for a big big girl bed soon! Like a twin bed! I know we are going to be getting the boys bunk beds, and I think we might as well just get Grace a twin bed too while we are at it. Im not sure though... I think that makes it too real that she isnt a baby anymore. Cant I just have another year of it?

I am probably going to be making a big change for myself this week... so stay tuned! Happy Monday everyone :)

Keeping up the pace and pneumonia.

I have really been on top of going to the gym. Im loving it! What Im really loving is that Justin is definatly noticing, lol. I have stuck to my 5 days a week plan and its paying off for sure. My endurance has increased too. When I first started at the gym again like 6 months ago, I couldnt do 5 minutes on the eliptical without feeling like I was going to die. I have been doing 30+ minutes now! On average I am making it 3.5 miles in that 30 minutes too, so its not like Im going slow for 30 minutes, haha. Its really making me feel great. I have kept up with the diet too, and all that is is portion control and not eating junk food after 7. I can have a snack after 7, but it has to be something better for me than cookies. All in all, I am seeing results which is the goal!

My poor buddy is sick :( He started with a mild cough yesterday and a low grade fever, nothing over 100. Today his cough got more intense so I decided to take him in to the doc to get him some cough suppresant. Next thing I know, we are being sent up for a chest xray. I've dealt with pnemonia before... pleanty! Nathin probably had it 8 times his first year, and it never came on this fast, nor this mild. But sure enough, when we went back for the results, he has pnemonia. Its 'small' right now since I got him in so early (thank goodness) but it can get worse fast. So now he has some meds and will hopefully be getting better from here. We dont know though if it is viral or bacterial at this point. If he gets better, it was bacterial. If he doesnt, its viral which could require a hospital stay. Im just hoping we caught it soon enough to be nipped in the bud. I will just be keeping a super close eye on him. Grace is coughing a little bit, but no where near as bad as Chase. Ill keep tabs on hers as well and see if it just passes or if she needs to go in as well. The doc said they have seen a lot more cases of pnemonia this year, much more than normal, so we will just do what we have been and watch them extra carefully.

We have SUCH a busy weekend! I am hoping that a certin someone will be coming down to see me for the weekend! I am soooo ready for a ladies night... its been long time coming. We havent gone out since November I think, so its overdue. You can rest assured, there should be some awesome pictures to come by the end of this weekend!

Now that the kids are napping and Justin has done all of my house work for me (he is handsdown, the best, most amazing man I could have hoped for to marry!), all I need to do is relax for a little bit. Maybe I will work on our budget... we have done great with that too! Its amazing what a little determination and creative financing will do for you. We have stayed on top of our bills like never before, and thats a great feeling. I hope everyone has a great weekend, and that my babies feel better soon :)

Always on the move!

It has been a good week! We had a birthday party yesterday and then we took the kids to the sledding hill. That was a workout, but so much fun! Grace is NOT ok with any part of her body being cold, at ALL. She totally flipped after she took her gloves off and grabbed some snow. We had to go home after that, lol.

The coming weekend is going to be jam packed, thats for sure. Bunco is sometime on Friday (I think... lol) and then I have a toy party AND purse party on Saturday, and I was thinking about going out for some drinks with the ladies that night too. Then Sunday we are hosting another tattoo party. Im hoping mine can be finished, but we will see. Ill be going first this time I think since he will be here earlier than the start of the party, and then we are going to stagger the times everyone else shows up to that everyone doesnt have to wait all day, they can just come later or come whenever and just chill, have food, play games and watch some football.

Speaking of football, I am getting pretty pumped for the superbowl! Chargers play next week and if they win, there is just one game after that for the AFC Championship and then off to the superbowl if they win that! How awesome would that be! The Chargers are one of the many reasons we miss San Diego, lol.

I have gotten myself back on track with the gym. I was going to skip tomorrow since Sunday and Monday are my days off, but I think I might go anyway. I just have to go SUPER early since J has to leave the house by 7 for work. Normally I dont get there until about 6 or 630, but I would have to be there when they open at 5 to make it back in time for him to leave. Plus then I have a doc appt while Chase is at school, and then I need to get Grace her follow up H1N1 an DTap shots. That should be fuuuuuun. Ill have to take Chase another time for his follow up H1N1 too, but Ill do it one at a time this time, lol.

I think Ill go bake some cookies for dessert tonight :) I have a new recipe I want to try! Happy Sunday!

Twenty Ten!

I cant believe I haven't had a chance to blog in so long!! I keep meaning to, I just haven't had the time. Happy New Year!! A little late, but hey :) We had a great new years. We spent it with friends drinking and having a good time! I did my first (and second) keg stand! Plus a beer bong, lol. Don't forget about my first game of flip cup! Yea... we had a great night! A few nights ago we hosted a tattoo party. It was pretty awesome. I got some more work done on my arm, and I still have a bit to go. Its looking good though. He is making it more into a half sleeve rather than just a piece. His work is amazing! I'm shocked at how fast I am healing too. Justin is having some work done too. He went back today and he has one more session to go before that part is done. It looks damn sexy :)

I officially started back at the gym today! It felt SO good. It had been like 3 weeks since I have gone. I didn't realize how much I missed it! Seriously, lol. I am pumped to go back tomorrow already. Maybe I will get some study time in tonight... hopefully. I am hoping that there isn't too much snow on the ground tomorrow to get to the gym. I go super early though, so I should be ok.

The kids are all doing good! Tomorrow, my oldest baby will be turning SIX! I cant even believe it. Chase has decided he is going to talk in one word sentences all of a sudden. Ummm.... NO. That better stop REAL fast. Grace is getting more clingy, if that's possible! She actually napped with me on the couch on Mon and Tues... she hasn't done that in FOREVER. It was awesome. She lets us know when she is ready for a nap or bed time by crawling up to us and snuggling. Instead of tucking her into her bed I just curled up on the couch with her and out we went, lol.

I would put up a picture of my arm now, but Ill just wait until its all done :) He finished the whole back of my arm, but we still have to do the bottom, top and front inside. Its gonna be sweeeet! I'm gonna get the kiddos off to bed now I think so I can get some study time in for a bit. Ive been off track with that too. What we have been on track with though is our finances!! I am so proud of our progress, its amazing :) Anyway... have a great week! For those of you here, be safe tomorrow... that is if we actually get the amount of snow predicted.

And PS... Ill do my resolutions in my next blog :)

After Christmas :)

We made it through!! Christmas was a blast! The kids got SO much stuff, its not even funny. Next year, we really need to tone it down. Seriously. But they really had a great day, and that's always fun! I think some of their favorites were the trampoline (of course!), Chases Bakugon, Chases race tracks, Chases camera, Graces baby, and her blocks! They have been doing ok with sharing, lol. If I want Chase to share,I just bribe him with a gumball :) All the pictures are on my facebook of course.

Other than that, there isn't a whole lot going on here! Justin and I just celebrated our anniversary yesterday. We spent a nice, quiet night at home. We aren't big on celebrating stuff. Not just because money is tight right after the holidays (lol) but because its just another day really... as long as we acknowledge it, that's good enough. I might be going this weekend to get more work done on my arm which I am excited about! Justin went to see Ritch last week and he got some amazing work done, so I'm excited to see what he has in mind for me.

The last week or so I have been getting headaches. They might be due in part to the fact that I haven't wanted to take the time to blow dry and straighten my hair so I just pin it all back and slip on a head band. Maybe the head bands are a little tight, lol. So I'm going to get a snack and play with my phone for a while before bed. I need to spend tomorrow deciding how I want to do the upstairs guest room as a play room, which means getting rid of the full size mattress and box spring that's in there... it doesn't get used enough to warrant having it really, and we could use the space as a play room. Have a great week!

Visual Motivation

For the last few weeks I have been thinking about getting rid of my old pair of jeans that are too big now, but I loved them. I have a pair in my current size, exactly the same, but still. So today I actually decided to put the on because I had to wear some long johns to go out in the snow. I figured they were one of the only pairs I have baggy enough to allow for an extra layer underneith. I sure do love sliding them on and feeling them slide down! LOL. I had to sinch a belt on to keep them up, but they worked like a charm. Its nice to be able to actually SEE the progress made over the last few months. They used to fit me nice and tight, like a regualr fit with jeans. That was probably in June. Here they are now:

Probably a good 3-4 inches open in the front. Sometimes I feel like I havent made any progress. And then I see this. I know I still have a little way to go, but this really helps with motivation!

Being Christmas Eve, we went out and started a snowman! He is huge, lol. We froze our tushys off, but it was a lot of fun! Chase had a blast. We went out while Grace was napping. I think she is too little to really get to play in the snow. We are going to be making cookies later for the kids to decorate for Santa tonight. I cant believe its already Christmas Eve! Its crazy how fast this year went by. I hope everyone has an amazing Christmas surround by people they love!
